12th JAN.FARNHAM to SUNBURY

We woke up a little later than normal and needed to get on,  our packs were packed and we left the Travelodge and walked the short distance to the station.
Generally the day was ok. We did a good distance which was firstly on road,  a break in Woking again at the Wetherspoons for a brunch then a pleasant easy traffic free walk along the Basingstoke Canal to Weybridge. I had been worried it would be wet under foot but actually was ok.
I was impressed that some of the house boats we saw were two storey and looked like houses but on the water.
We reached the actual Thames,  shocked at how close it actually was..we were on the Thames Path without starting it!
We did not have os maps and had to follow the gps map,  Viewranger, which eats batteries but knowing we had a youth hostel tomorrow night we should be ok.
Rowers from some uni were sculling back and forth with bods shouting at them instructions, at least I  think they were coaches , maybe random bods just giving advice.
More screeching Parakeets.
By the time we approached Sunbury it was getting dark,  we decided we would be pitching next to the Thames. There were a few fishermen sat motionless in their deck chairs and we could see spots where fishermen had been which seemed ideal to pitch, so we did. There were gravel pits and water works adjacent.
As we had had a brunch we were not overly hungry so scoffed hobnobs with our tea. A few folk went by but I am not even sure they noticed us. For a change we could be fruggle with our phone batteries. The signal was the strongest 3 G so we watched  Borgen on i player ,  a real treat.
