25 th JAN. EWEN to CIRENCESTER via Thames source

We woke a few times due to the cold,  was down to -7°C. My boots were stiff being frozen,  the inner tent was wet and Josh's sleeping bag was fairly damp on the outside. We hoped to get a laundrette in Cirencester. It was the coldest night of the walk having to boil the semi frozen water for breaky which seemed to take ages.
Packing up I kept my gloves on even though it made things awkward.
Jim from the house offered us a cuppa but we refused due to getting on. We wished him a thanks and goodbye around 8.30.
We only had a couple of miles to walk over a couple of maintaining roads , crunching on very crisp snow,  semi thawed and refrozen.
We followed a single set of boot prints as we made our pilgrimage to the source.
Around 9.30 we walked a field with a small woodland at the far side. I could just make out the grave like stone marking the source of the Thames. We finally got there and took the necessary photos and sat eating bics savouring the moment before hauling on packs and walking back to the main road.
We took the fairly busy road to Cirencester, not a pleasant experience. We headed for a coffee and a bite to eat at McDonalds then walked into the market place where we got a few things and failed at finding a laundrette. I got the necessary Cotwolds Way book,  posted things to Monique .
Walking icy pavements we made our way to Travelodge ,£19 for a room , I love their sale ,a couple of miles on the edge of Cirencester.

.It was a well earned stop in comfy surroundings. We sewed,  patched,  cleaned and generally serviced our gear...then relaxed watching the film Gladiator. We did not sleep until gone 12.
