I woke around 6.30 .There was a fair bit of rain in the night so was pretty pleased to be in the stable. There had been a slight drip on Joshs sleeping bag. He was awake by 7. We were able to use the tack room kettle which speeded things up with breaky. We did not start packing up until 7.30. Away by 8 saying bye to Maurice and Ali.
We had a ten mile walk to Chipping Campden , pretty boring and uneventful apart from a lavender farm.
We got to the start of the Cotswold Way, national trail 11.
It was a pretty village, apparently very Cotswold. We had a job finding the plaque indicating the start of the path at the old market hall.
It was sunny but chilly and we sought a sun coated bench to sit on for lunch as it was about 12.
We left the village unsure what to expect. Generally we were impressed at the route marking ,route was varied and interesting. We climbed a few hills which felt strange after so long doing flat or easy routes recently. It was also strange having leaves blowing around after all the snow which most of it had gone during the night rainfall.
I am going to summarise and I am fairly tired so will have to detail in diary.
Went via Broadway,a very posh village without ordinary shops;antiques, trendy shops, etc. Alot of the path was good especially the high routes but in the lower areas it was wet and muddy.
We had trouble finding a stop , we asked a lady , well spoken in a Musto sailing jacket but she said it would damage her Stewardship scheme.....just BS and an excuse.
She did suggest walking on 4 miles to a camp site...good of her.
We knew we had problems now as we descended to Stanton which is estate land and the worst for asking...far to pompous and workers are to scared to make decision.
We walked passed the imposing front gate and across a b road to continue in fading light. Just off route we found a nook to put the tent.
We got most of the tent pitched in fading light before putting on head torches. I climbed in got a kit sorted while J went to a nearby stream for water.
We had noodles and got an early night aware that we were abit exposed. Sounds of dogs barking indicating we were close to habitation. It was about 7 on sleeping.
4400 mile backpack of the Great British National Trails in one continuous walk .This includes Section One- 3700 miles of the National Trails of England and Wales , all 15 trails , Section 2- a 700 miles of the 4 Scottish Long Distant Paths. This is one walk , completed by linking trails by walking inbetween using lesser trails, lanes , etc.
