I for some reason could not sleep well. I ended getting up at 6 in the dark and watched the morning break to a dreary but dramatic day. PWLL DERI is a fantastic location over looking a rocky shore. It is a shame it has a rather clinical feel as it has just been up graded, the homely feel of hostels seems to be deminished - Slaidburn is the last homely hostel I had been in.
I got J up at seven having got cheese on toast and beans sorted. We packed up and left just before nine. Heavy showers encouraged us to sweat in waterproofs for two hours and making our way on easy, in comparison to yesterday, fairy flat coastal paths. We studied the route and St Davids head hostel was beyond our reach, and we did not want the slog of yesterday and saturday. We felt we had earnt an easy day. We headed into Trefin after ten miles walking and at the Old Schoolhouse hostel we booked in. I must say this is a fantastic hostel, a former YHA hostel now an independant. YHAneed to watch out because places like this are going to get all the trade. It was warm in character and spirit. It was homely. ,open to come and go at any time, free wifi , excellent bedrooms , more like hotel rooms with personal touches ,open at 2 in the afternoon not 5 and g_enerally more the cosy. The chap who booked us in was honest and openly decent .YHA you are going to lose out. I do not think I have been this cosy /comfortable on the entire walk.
It was like having a day off , the showers had stopped and we walked a mile up the road to a Spar. We got treats and food for tonight. On route back we ate an entire litre tub of triple chocolate ice cream ob the packaging it said'Richly Indulgent'. We had nothing to eat it with and could not wait until our hostel return so just animal like dug in, me being the civilised one had bought wafers so we ate three inch chucks of ice cream jammed dripping between two thin wafers. I wad pleased no one stopped to offer a lift because my beard was coated in ice cream and J's face was clown like.
I lay in bed blogging while J cooked dinner, an excellent prawn curry . This is the life, like a holiday for once.
4400 mile backpack of the Great British National Trails in one continuous walk .This includes Section One- 3700 miles of the National Trails of England and Wales , all 15 trails , Section 2- a 700 miles of the 4 Scottish Long Distant Paths. This is one walk , completed by linking trails by walking inbetween using lesser trails, lanes , etc.
