1000 Miles Completed - 2nd Oct.

The independent hostel at Trefin was a perfect place to celebrate our first 1000 miles, can you hear the fanfare except we unaware that we had done that mileage until today ten miles on . I had been so busy catching up on the blog that I had not totalled the daily mileage up and therefore was unaware until this evening. We have in fact done 1016 miles. To celebrate, belatedly, we only did 10 miles on fairly flat clifftop , however the eind and heavy showers made us earn those ten miles.
I suppose the highlights of the day were Grey Seals on remote beaches, gannets diving off shore , sheltering in from a torrential rainfall in the old industrial village of Porthgain- a past supplier of building work slate, and stone quarries pre 1931 when the quarries closed.
Also St. Davids Head, not his actual head but the rocky outcrop sticking ruggard and exposed to the elements. It felt a major part of this national trail. We turned away from this northern section with Strumble head lighthouse blinking way off behind us.
We arrived at Whitesands Bay about 45 mins from the head and with Ramsey Island in clear view we were buffeted by fairly strong gusts from the south west.
From the car park we walked the wrong way to St Davids youth hostel through fields of intimidating, fully horned, highland cattle.
The warden at the hostel drove us to the city of St Davids for supplies two miles away and therefore our celebratory meal and drink.
Holly's dad ,Tommy ,had contacted the Northern Echo my local paper and I gave an update to Ashley one of their reporters.
With goodies,  J cooking and music of Kate Rusby and Old Blind Dogs  being played on his phone it was a peaceful cosy little abode made more so with rain hitting the windows and wind whistling outside.
