The Start.

II awoke with a bit of a sore head from one to many slap on the back beers. I had been fairly pleased with my progress yesterday and had celebrated the fact with a relaxed evening with my three boys and Monique.
Today started slow, strong black coffee attempted to put ioa spring in my step, but leaving had its down side, I would miss the gang.
I watched alittle olympics, then finished packing my

.
It weighed 42 pounds, making my combined weght 17 stone. It felt comfortable though.
After a few emails to cancel a few things and a hearty breakfast we set off to Northallerton train station. Every thing normal except I wore my walking gear.

Josh was to go back to Newcastle and his girlfriend and I south to York then onto Hessle. It seemed strange that he was not starting the walk with me, but I know how mu h he needs his time with Holly. We had a hug and among his two bawling brothers I shouted 'see you in three weeks.' J turned and stumbled and fell onto the train much to my delight. A brief wave and he was gone.
Five minutes later the same was repeated on the south bound platform minus the dramatic fall. I kissed my goodbyes and waving to wet eyes I headed south.

The journey was not to bad, it gave me time to reflect on things past and the walk ahead. A bone shaker of a train tiok me to Brough then changed to Hessle. I watched folk around me sizing up my pack,  they had no idea of what was planned.
At 3 pm I made my first stepstaken on the walk itself. I had faffed around previously trying to photograph myself by the Yorkshire Wold way sign, the platform was deserted.

The weather was good I felt good as I made my way over tbe wrong bridge and had to back track, good start Roge!.

I made myway over the busy A63 and eventually strode  along the banks of the Humber with the Humber bridge dominated my view. Dog walkers, children throwing stones in the sea and mountain bikers minus the mountains dominated the route.
I made my way between railway tracks and muddy shore, lined with butterflyless buddlia ,on a decent path and a stumble on shingle and mud shore.
In no time i was moving inland on grassy lanes, dark woods folllowing those trusty acorn waymarkers pointing me on. Through undulating wheat clad fields, passed grand houses and the curious sheep. Melton,Welton, and Brantingham before the only steep climb of the day to Mount Airy Farm just outside South Cave. I stood for a while contemplating asking at the farm for a pitch and was weary of the farm dog now barking at me . At least a friendly face came out of the house and guided me to a decent spot.  Watered I had the tent up in ten minutes I climbed in and realised no matches. Cold drinks and snacks for supper then , priority tomorrow get matches.
13 miles today, not bad considering I started at 3pm. Feel good but slight  blister on sole of right foot.

First day over.
