8th Oct.,2012 EAST PICKARD BAY TO BOSHERTON, Broad Haven beach

The night wind, as in the weather not in the tent, had kept the tent dry.It makes it so much easier to pack up .
We walked a few warm up up hills and down,  there was poor views ahead as sea mist dulled our view. After about a mile or so we dropped to Fresheater West beach walking its sands to the much needed public convience. A few dog walkers were also out ,I asked a chap if the army range would be flying the red flags today prohibiting us entry and some coastal sites. You can always rely on local knowledge. He said the range hasn't be used for 20 years.
Great! We strode on.
Half a mile on a booming sound followed by three others hit our ears, it was not thunder but the army range and was confirmed by red flags keeping us at bay.
We had to walk via the road to Castlemartin anyway where any hope of the flag not flying was confirmed by machine gun fire with the odd heavy gun.
I was not feeling my best and we rested in a walled garden next to the sentry gate and red flag called the Pound. I thought it was called the pound due to the pounding of the guns. Actually  we were sat in the Pound on benches ,by the amount of lychen on them not often sat on,  which was a pound for lost/stray animals in a previous time .I thought it suited our presence. We joked about setting up home there.
We now had to walk the road to Bosherton due to the armys noisy activities therefore missing a few highlights of the coast path.
We passed Merrion army base with its Leopard and Chieftain tanks on display at the main gate. The Chieftain tank was gifted to the base by the people of Pembroke!?
I felt shattered and my right knee ached,  any opportunity to stop was taken.
At Bosherton,  around midday we popped into a cafe called Olde World Cafe . Josh had double egg on toast and I had tea. It was like being in a 1950's house,  like my old Nans home;furniture, pictures on the wall,  ornaments.  Pictures of an elderly lady  receiving an MBE at Buck Palace.
As we left I enquired about the lady in the photo and her daughter in law fetched her to us and we were privilaged to meet this lady who had been awarded the MBE for services to tourism,  Aunty Vi.
We made our way down via the lilly ponds which had no lilly flowers on show , I suppose it is October! Then onto Broad Haven Sands. It was only 2.30 but as far as I was concerned we were stopping,  J never objects to stopping.
We got water from the Public Conviences and spent the afternoon sat on the beach with our backs to rocks watching people come and go. J went limpeting and cooked a few then around 6 did a spag bol. I had little appetite but ate anyway. We exited the beach tanless walking on to the dunes to pitch the tent in the dunes of Stackpole Warren.
I must be pretty bad as I only drank half my tea before sleep grabbed me. I was poor company to Josh again. Only ten miles walked today.
