4th AUG.MILLINGTON TO WHARRAM PERCY In the pub at Fridaythorpe, because my fish and chips took so long I wrong the previous blog. It is quite hard doing this because all you want to do when you stop is relax and not relive blister bursting moments. It gave me a chance to watch alittle olympics . I ended up spending over an hour supping my Yorkshire Sparkle pint and when the fish and chips came I had to force it down leaving half the mushy peas and chips. On leaving I adjusted my pack by the village green where a plack started I was half way on the Wolds Way. I could hear thunder in the distance but it did not reach me until three miles later and was torrential. I had just got a lucazade from the post office when I went into wet weather mode- waterproof top on and pack cover. I cannot remember much of the scenary as my head was down as I half jogged/walked to Wharram Percy. Where the cows had left diverts made walking awkward and paths were now small streams as lightening and thunder rumbled around me. I was shocked when someone in shorts and t shirt jogged past me. There was a brief hello and he disappeared. A mile later I met him coming out of under growth either having taken the wrong way or to releave himself. I asked if he was doing the Wolds ,he said yes but over 48 hours, he had started with 11 now there were 5. It was a sponsored thing over 48 hours. He was behind and disappeared again only to turn up again walking toward me. "There is a bloody great bull there!" I said it would be ok and continued, fool hardy maybe. He ensured he kept me between him and bull as we stirred up the cows. Gate reached he was off never to be seen again. The rain had stopped as I approached Bella farm. I chatted to the game keeper there who put me in a metaled barn, luxury! It gave me a pitchless night and chance to dry stuff out. I made myself at home on the wooden based trailer,I felt like a king. Finished walking about 6.30.
