I cannot remember going to sleep, I thought I was watching MASH.
I woke at 7am , Josh snoring next to me. Turned the flash HD tv on for the news - nothing that new on ;USA election, the NY marathon cancelled, MPs expenses.
Today was like a day off, I lazed in bed like I used to on a weekend watching the news interspersed with the odd cartoon. I made myself a cup of tea and scoffed choc digestives.
At 9 I woke J , I am sure he would of slept until gone noon. I must admit I felt revived and rested enjoying normality.
We took things easy to, around 10.30 I cooked on the trangia fried eggs. I had to do this in the bathroom as there is an extractor fan and I did not want to set off the fire alarm. I enjoy the luxury of this place but the lack of hostel style kitchen makes cooked breaky a problem. In a way the hostel enviroment is better and more us. Dried mud from gaiters and boots dotted the carpet, the washing of socks in the shower last night. now on a small heater and slow to dry. I made a mistake washing my trousers and had to put them on damp, I must be hot stuff because they dried on me before leaving. We must leave more mess than the average visitor, we or should I say I ,do try to the clean up before leaving.
At 11.30 we left making our way to SPORTS DIRECT store over the road to replace my boots which had lasted for over 800miles of near perminate damp conditions. They were cheap boots I bought for J in Macclesfield ,they were HI TEC ALTITUDE IV.The sole was showing a fair bit of wear but the main issue was stitching was gone on the left inner boot, not the best for keeping feet dry. The sole had felt fairly thin and on harsh stoney surfaces tired feet felt it. Generally a good, better than expected boot. I replaced them with fabric boots which I had previous on the walk called Karrimor KSB 350 II event , they had proved excellent value at £49 , plus vibram sole which out lasted the upper on my last pair. Also in a size that was great for my hobbit 10.5 feet and wider than normal. I also bought thermal bottoms for us both - winter was coming!
We walked on not really having seen much I
of Weston except the outskirts and industrial estates.
Via Oldmixon and Purn we made our way, hardly directly to the coast. Again the terrain was flat and fields were wet and pooled. We were having a day offish, so any miles were keeping the walk continuous. Lanes took us passed an Animal park with a blimp ballon which we had in view all day., then through a large caravan park.
We needed water for our pitch and due to beach toilets were closed I had to buy a 2 litre bottle from a caravan park site shop.
As soon as we hit the flat beach the westerly wind hit us. Numerous dog walkers were on the flat compacted sandy shore, and mud stretched away to the sea which barely visible where to land and sea met,the tide seemed miles out. At the moment I can hear the roar of the sea getting closer and louder.
A couple of miles south we sat on packs brewing coffee. I had sussed out a pitch spot in the dunes but waited for the dog walkers to leave before pitching the tent.
It felt good to be back in the cosy tent, the pitch was flat and now J had a repaired mat we were both comfy.
Josh fixed peppered mackeral sandwiches which should of been the meal from last night. Relaxing listening to radio and sea.
