Full up on a breaky of hearty beans on toast I said goodbye
and with Charlie pointing out the way I made my way across the A173.
Asks I gained higher ground through the woods folllowing I had a great view of Guisborough. It eas air still and the only sound was flies. I met a rare chap who was also doing the Cleveland Way but in the usual Helmsley start. We exchanged a few stories and parted.
This seemed popular with mountain bikers.one pair tweeking their bikes stated I had a big one, in my campest accent I said thank you, he was refurring to my pack of course! Having tweeked they soon sped past.
At 10.20 i approached Roseberry Topping a 320metre nipple. Because this a dog leg I left my pack with a note saying back soon. I felt as light as a feather as i ran there and back stopping only for a photo from french tourists.
It had taken me 25 minutes.
I could see theCaptain Cook monument from the topping and an hour later I was stood by its rather dull monolith.
The route took me down tofarm land and a small village of Kildare. For about 1pm. A small cafe/tea room supplied me with a much needed cold pint of beer. I then sat talking to a lady called Gay Ward who was also doing the
Way but not my way.
The route took me onto moorland where it eas rough stone track and views on my right of civilisation. I missed theshort cut at Greenhow Moor so continued and sat by the sign post at the Bloworth crossing. Acouple of young girls, late teens, who had got the lost sat with me telling of going off route for 5 miles. I ensured they knew which route to take then left them.
As I now headed west again on horrible feet aching track, A lizard scuttled under my feet. I gained Round Hill at 454m and I was tired and ready to stop.
Again I lacked water as I descended to Clay Bank where I could see a car park. Although tired I continuedup Hasty Bank and on its flat top pitched over looking the lights of distant Middlesbrough. AND SO TO BED.
